The popular initiative «For a better life in old age (initiative for a 13th AHV old age pension)» was approved by the people and the cantons on 3 March 2024.
From 2026, all AHV old age pensioners will receive an additional monthly pension. This increase only applies to AHV retirement pensions. Survivors' pensions for widows, widowers and orphans as well as disability insurance pensions will continue to be paid out 12 times a year.
The form in which the payment will be made is still open and is part of the legislative provisions to be drafted.
What do recipients of old-age pensions have to do now?
Nothing. The 13th AHV old age pension will be paid out automatically from 2026.
